Throne of Glass: When Being the Baddest B*tch Isn’t Just a Vibe, It’s a Lifestyle

Updated: Mar 10

Celaena Sardothien is deadly, glamorous, and utterly unstoppable. Throne of Glass is a whirlwind of danger, betrayal, and badassery! 🔥👑✨

Responsibilities be damned. I absolutely could not put Throne of Glass down.

Where to freakin’ begin… No, really. There is so much here to unpack, and as always, my review will NOT be giving away ANY of the good for free. I definitely don’t get off on ruining the magic for others. That’s mean girl energy, and we are not about that. ✨💅🏼

So Throne of Glass begins with Celaena in the salt mines of Endovier. She has been there for over a year and has all but given up on the idea of freedom—or even fighting for her own. She still has no idea who helped put her there, and from what she knows of Endovier, it is impossible to infiltrate. As far as she is concerned, no one will ever be coming for her.

That is… until she finds herself in chains, standing in front of none other than Dorian Havilliard, the Crown Prince of Adarlan. 👑 He has traveled the long journey to her with a proposition that she quite honestly has no choice but to accept. It was accept his offer or stay in Endovier and surely die.

📖 This book had me in a chokehold from the first damn chapter.

I already fell in love with Celaena as a character in The Assassin’s Blade. She’s well-read, cultured, a talented musician, and on top of it all—she’s just like me. A true girly girl 💖 who loves all things lavish and beautiful, with a keen eye for luxury that oozes refined awareness. That love for beautiful things never falters in Throne of Glass, and we are given a sneak peek into the lavish and luxurious life of the royal court. The descriptions of her gowns? Truly stunning. ✨

I think Celaena’s ability to be over-the-top when it comes to her girly loves is one of the things I adore most about her. The most dangerous assassin in the world, but she will crash out for a pair of gorgeous shoes. 👠 It’s a sweet reminder that no matter how deadly she is… she’s still just a girl.

There was a trickle-down effect of possibilities for the future of the series, which has me both excited and terrified, considering everything Celaena has already endured. She is not only pinned against nearly every man—save for two—but she also has women vying for the attention of the prince. And let’s be real… no matter how dangerous men may be, there is NOTHING more lethal than a woman with her eyes set on a man—especially if you’re in her way. 👀

I found myself relating to Celaena so much more than most other characters I’ve read, simply because she has endured SO. MUCH. TRAUMA. Yet, through it all, she finds the strength and personal endurance to keep going. She is inspiring and impressive in every way. For anyone who has experienced betrayal, loss, and pain, Celaena is the kind of woman you aspire to be.

It’s one thing to read about it in a book, but when life has actually dealt you experiences that compare to the betrayals and abuse she has faced? The book becomes more than just a story—it becomes another reason to keep going.

📖 Throne of Glass gives me a feeling of home that I don’t experience in my own life.

It also offers the kind of support and kindness that SHOULD happen after trauma but rarely does in real life. It’s like seeing the movie all the way through instead of pressing stop after the most painful part. I needed this book.

I am someone who moved home after my trauma, tried to find a therapist, and was turned down three times. I was told my experiences were “beyond their scope of awareness.” After that, I stopped trying. I can’t explain how much worse I felt after those experiences.

So when books don’t shy away from the darkness of life—but also don’t leave you there, instead showing what healing could look like? That helps in ways I’ve never admitted out loud. To not feel like the outcast, but instead, like someone who just hasn’t found their people yet… just like Celaena.

She builds relationships that will serve her long into her life, and these books show what that should look like. As someone who is autistic and struggles to connect with people that way, this series is magic in a way TV never could be.

If you are someone who has endured life, and it hasn’t always been happy or peaceful, I think you will relate to Celaena.

💫 Overall, this book had everything I adore in a fantasy.

The romance? Not too much. A little bit… but I would give it a level 1 spice. 🌶️
